Lions’ Surprise Draft Target Revealed! Why Detroit Has Its Eyes on Pass Rusher Mike Green?.D

Mike Green to the Lions? Breaking Down Detroit’s Mock Draft Target

Detroit’s Focus on the Pass Rush

As the 2025 NFL Draft draws closer, the Detroit Lions are making their priorities clear. With Aidan Hutchinson already anchoring their defensive front, the team is looking to add another pass-rushing threat to elevate their defense to the next level. In Sports Illustrated’s latest mock draft, the Lions are projected to select Marshall’s standout defensive end, Mike Green, with the 28th overall pick.

Why Mike Green Stands Out

Green was an absolute force on the field in 2024, leading the nation with 17 sacks. His ability to disrupt offenses with a combination of speed and power makes him one of the most intriguing pass-rushers in this year’s draft class. However, some scouts have raised concerns about his size, as he measures in at 6’3″, 252 pounds with 32-inch arms—dimensions that could present challenges at the next level. Still, his production speaks for itself, and Detroit appears to be highly interested in his potential.

Addressing Off-Field Questions

At the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine, Green was asked about past sexual assault allegations. He firmly denied any wrongdoing and emphasized that he has never been formally charged with a crime. “There’s a lot of talk out there, and it’s just a bunch of people who don’t really know what actually happened,” Green told reporters. “I’ve never done anything wrong. My main focus right now is just telling these teams everything they need and want to know.”

While off-field concerns can sometimes impact a player’s draft stock, Green remains steadfast in his preparation and commitment to proving himself as an elite NFL prospect.

A Strong Showing at Pro Day

Green further solidified his draft stock with an impressive performance during his Pro Day. He recorded a 4.25-second short shuttle and a 6.85-second three-cone drill—both of which are elite numbers for an edge rusher. His athleticism and explosiveness could be exactly what Detroit needs to complement Hutchinson and turn their pass rush into one of the league’s most feared units.

Should Detroit Take the Risk?

Despite the questions surrounding him, Green’s on-field talent is undeniable. If the Lions believe his skills outweigh the concerns, he could be a game-changing addition to their defense. The pass rush is a critical area of need for Detroit, and Green’s ability to generate pressure could make him a steal at the 28th pick.

With the draft fast approaching, the Lions must decide whether to take a chance on Green or look elsewhere. If they believe in his ability to translate college dominance into NFL success, he could be the missing piece in their quest for a championship-caliber defense.
