Lucas Giolito Addresses Exit From Red Sox Spring Training Debut.THANHDUNG

Lucas Giolito’s Red Sox spring training debut didn’t last as long as he might have liked.

Giolito pitched one inning against the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday and exited the game with a hamstring injury, as announced by Boston. The right-hander admitted he suffered the injury after the first pitch he threw.

“I’ve pulled my hamstring in my career a few times, and it feels very minor,” Giolito told reporters, per MassLive’s Sean McAdam. “That’s what (the training staff) is saying based on the initial testing. It’s just an annoying little setback, I guess.”

Giolito’s annoyance came with the mindset of missing Opening Day last year and his entire first season with the Red Sox due to an elbow injury. The 30-year-old admitted it was a “frustrating” turnout and wasn’t sure if the injury would preclude him from missing his next scheduled outing.

“You can’t have that attitude,” Giolito said. “It is what it is. Things happen, injuries happen. I wouldn’t even categorize this as an injury, really, at this point. It just felt like it got tight on me.

Giolito’s outing came after Brayan Bello was set to join Kutter Crawford on the injured list. The Red Sox will have the final two weeks of spring training to evaluate Giolito’s status for Opening Day.
