When Micah Parsons came into the NFL, he signed a $17 million rookie contract with the Dallas Cowboys. Fast forward four years and he is arguably one of the best players in the league at his position. That stature usually means he is looking towards a massive payday any time soon.

The star pass rusher has crushed pre-draft evaluations questioning his size and ability to thrive in his position. His 17-game average shows he sacks quarterbacks 13.6 times per season. Those numbers have ensured he has been named to the All-Pro teams in all three seasons so far and was also voted high in the Defensive Player of the Year voting twice.

His impact on the Cowboys defense has been stellar, as the group has played better with him on the field. That means, owner Jerry Jones, who values leaders of men, is likely to stump up the big bag. NFL great Steve Smith Sr. thinks Jones needs to rethink that stance.

Steve Smith Sr. was comparing Micah Parsons to defensive greats of old where those players impacted the team on every single down. On the other hand, he thinks the Dallas Cowboys pass rusher does not do it on every down, which made him wonder if Jones should set aside that much money for Parsons.

Steve Smith Sr. might want the Cowboys to rethink their decision to hand Micah Parsons that much money. But Dallas Cowboys owners, fans, coaching staff, as well as Jerry Jones feel otherwise. The 25-year-old has proved his worth to them in more ways than one.

This season has been the best proof for them so far. Parsons notched just one sack and 3.5 run stuffs in the first four games of the season before an injury sidelined him. That stretch might suggest he did not play well. But his impact on defense without multiple starters was evident as the Cowboys won two out of two games.

After coming back from injury, he has four sacks and one forced fumble. All while leading quarterback Dak Prescott was out injured. In that struggling team too, he led his defense to play quite well. That effort culminated in a surprising win over the Washington Commanders this past week.

If anything, he has been giving his organization enough ammunition to hand him that massive deal. Expect the Penn State alum to be the highest paid non-quarterback in this league once the ink dries on his new deal.
