Jerry Jones has been at the receiving end of a lot of flak for the lackluster season his Dallas Cowboys have had. The team has struggled to get anything going and, even at full strength, have struggled. With that came questions about the job security of HC Mike McCarthy as a certain Deion Sanders‘ name kept looming.
Jones made it clear that he will not make any coaching changes mid-season. That seemingly helped Mike McCarthy keep his job, at least for some time. Fans and analysts expect that the team will likely look towards a new system next season.
That means the odds of a new head coach taking over next season is highly likely. With that comes increasing debates on who is the right candidate the for the job. One franchise legend, Michael Irvin, was on The Herd with Colin Cowherd to discuss this very topic.
What he agreed 100% to was when host Colin Cowherd asked him if he thought Deion Sanders would accept the head coaching job if the Dallas Cowboys drafted his son Shedeur Sanders. With a wide smile on his face, he suggested that his sources told him it is highly possible.
If anything, Michael Irvin and Deion Sanders are good friends. Therefore, the sources the former wideout is referring to could be from the Sanders’ camp itself. But it should also be noted that the Colorado Buffaloes head coach has made it clear in the past that he loves his current situation.
Irvin’s sources may have given him the green light, but just like him, the footballing world has seen how Deion Sanders has performed as a head coach. After leading Jackson State to an unbeaten regular season record, he has turned the fortunes of the University of Colorado around.
Sanders is also known for the winning culture he brings that has helped the Buffaloes swarm to be the second-best team in the tough Big 12 conference. Another former Dallas Cowboys star, Dez Bryant, has kept tabs on this, and after watching Irvin say that he took to his X account to give his take.
Dez Bryant wants Jerry Jones to clean house and start afresh. The team has a lot of star young players that need a good head coach to help them develop. Which is why he too suggested that Deion Sanders would be his choice as the next head coach.
The former players might want one of their greats to lead their team. But Jones has the Dak Prescott problem facing him if he wants to listen to his former players. That albatross of a contract will be difficult to offload if he wants to draft Shedeur Sanders so as to pull his father in.
