The Phillies (9-6) continue to struggle offensively, having been shut out in two of their last three games, including a 7-0 loss to the Cardinals (7-8) in St. Louis to close out the series. It marks the first time since August 2022 that they’ve been blanked twice in the same series.

Despite early chances against Cardinals starter Matthew Liberatore, the Phillies couldn’t capitalize. On a less blustery day, Bryce Harper’s first-inning fly ball—hit at 105.3 mph—might have left the park.

They had runners on second and third with one out in the second inning but failed to score, as Brandon Marsh struck out and Johan Rojas was retired on a bunt. Their final hit came in the third inning, and Cardinals pitchers retired the last 20 Phillies batters in order.

Marsh’s slump has been especially rough—he’s now 0-for-26 since the Nationals series.

Zack Wheeler allowed a two-run homer in the fourth and gave up two ground-rule doubles in the sixth that added two more runs. He finished six innings, surrendering four earned runs on seven hits. Matt Strahm and Carlos Hernandez combined to allow three additional runs in relief.

The Phillies head back to Philadelphia after a 2-4 road trip and will open a four-game set against the San Francisco Giants on Monday. Taijuan Walker is set to start against right-hander Landen Roupp.
