Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins may have only joined the team for 10 games, but the seasoned player quickly took rookie Xavier Worthy under his guidance.
Despite needing to familiarize himself with a new playbook, teammates, and city, Hopkins found time to mentor Worthy. The rookie’s performance in the past seven games has been outstanding. As Worthy gears up for his debut playoff match and Hopkins prepares for his first postseason appearance since 2019, the veteran has looked back on his role as a mentor to Worthy.
“It’s easy when you have someone like him who’s eager to work, eager to learn, and who asks questions,” Hopkins remarked. “He reminded me of myself when I was young, learning from Andre Johnson, always asking questions and learning, both on the field and off, understanding how to prepare his body for big games.
It’s been enjoyable.” As the Chiefs gear up to face the Houston Texans at Arrowhead in the Divisional Round, Hopkins and Worthy will be crucial in igniting Andy Reid’s offense. After not playing a significant game in the past three weeks, the Chiefs hope to avoid a slow start and that Patrick Mahomes and the offense will quickly find their rhythm.
Worthy ended the regular season on a high note, and now it’s time to see if he can apply all he’s learned from Hopkins when the stakes are highest.
