NFL hits Eagles LB Oren Burks with news he doesn’t want to hear ahead of big playoff game debut-HN

Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Oren Burks is on tap to start one of the biggest games of his seven-year NFL career when the Birds face the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday in the divisional round of the playoffs.

But first, Burks owes the NFL a good chunk of money.

The NFL hit Burks with an $8,333 fine for unnecessary roughness from a play that took place in the Eagles’ wild card win over the Green Bay Packers.

Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Oren Burks (42) walks off the field after the game against the Minnesota Vikings at Lincoln Financial Field.

The play in question came during opening kickoff when Burks made a helmet-to-helmet tackle on Packers’ kick returner Keisean Nixon, which caused a fumble.

No flag was thrown, so the Eagles were not punished during the game.

On the bright side, this is Burks’ first and only fine of the 2024-25 season. He will cut his check and continue to focus on Philly’s next playoff game.

Burks was named the Eagles’ starting inside linebacker opposite Zack Baun after the team lost Nakobe Dean to a season-ending knee injury last.

That means all eyes will be on Burks, who totaled 41 tackles, two forced fumbles, and one defended pass for Philly during the regular season.

Burks and the rest of the linebacker room, which includes rookie Jeremiah Trotter, have some big shoes to fill.

However, Burks is confident that they’re ready.

“I’m ready. I’m ready,” Burks said. “The whole year just waiting for an opportunity. They’ve been playing really well, Nakobe and Zack. I’ve been really proud of the room. Everybody, even (Jeremiah) Trotter, when we got in that last game, he shows up and makes plays. Just the mentality we have in the room, it’s just next-man-up mentality.”

Fans can watch Burks and the rest of the Eagles play their hearts out on Sunday versus the Rams with the goal of advancing to the NFC championship round.
