NFL rumors: Cowboys urged to trade down with Broncos if Ashton Jeanty isn’t available – maa

BREAKING: Dallas Cowboys Eye Trade for NFL Draft If Running Back Ashton Jeanty Is Off the Board

As the Dallas Cowboys look ahead to the 2025 NFL Draft, one position that many experts have highlighted as a potential need is the running back spot. Despite already signing notable players like Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders, the Cowboys are still exploring options to strengthen their backfield. In fact, recent buzz suggests that the Cowboys are highly interested in Boise State’s star running back, Ashton Jeanty.

However, NFL.com draft analyst Chad Reuter has raised an intriguing possibility for the Cowboys. He suggests that if Jeanty is unavailable when Dallas is on the clock at No. 12 overall, the team should consider trading down in the draft. Reuter proposed a potential deal with the Denver Broncos, moving down from No. 12 to No. 20 in exchange for Denver’s 51st overall pick and a fifth-round selection.

“Given the Cowboys’ recent success in moving down in the draft, they could repeat the strategy if Jeanty is not available at No. 12,” Reuter explained. “In 2021, Dallas made a successful trade with the Eagles to land star defender Micah Parsons, and last year, they moved with Detroit to grab left tackle Tyler Guyton. Moving down to No. 20 could provide them with an additional pick while still allowing them to target other valuable prospects, including defensive players like Jalen Golden or linebacker Emeka Egbuka, or even another running back such as Omarion Hampton.”

Despite the trade suggestion, Reuter emphasized that Jeanty remains a prime candidate for Dallas, especially if he falls to the 12th pick. ESPN’s Field Yates also echoed this sentiment, noting that Jeanty is still very much on the Cowboys’ radar, even after the team’s additions to the running back room.

“Dallas must continue to address the offensive line, but if Jeanty slides to No. 12, they would be a prime candidate to select him, even after agreeing to deals with Williams and Sanders,” Yates said.

Jeanty, who impressed throughout his college career at Boise State, is widely considered one of the top running back prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft. His combination of vision, agility, and playmaking ability makes him an attractive option for any team in need of a dynamic ball carrier. For the Cowboys, adding a talent like Jeanty would not only improve their running game but also provide an extra weapon for quarterback Dak Prescott.

As the Cowboys prepare for the draft, the decision at No. 12 could ultimately shape the direction of their season. Whether they land Jeanty or make a strategic trade down, Dallas will be looking to enhance both their offense and defense as they continue to build toward a Super Bowl-contending roster. The clock is ticking, and fans will be watching closely to see what moves the Cowboys make next.
