Jason Kelce has once again voiced his opinion. In the early part of 2025, the NFL play known as the “Tush Push” has stirred significant debate. Following remarks by the Philadelphia Eagles icon about its effects, teams like the Buffalo Bills and Green Bay Packers have advocated for its prohibition.
The Packers were the ones who first proposed banning the Tush Push at the NFL’s annual meetings in Palm Beach, Florida. The decision on this issue was deferred to May to allow for more thorough assessment. Nonetheless, Kelce feels accountable for the uproar it’s caused.
The former Eagles center and sibling of Travis Kelce had previously mentioned that the Tush Push was challenging for centers, who were subjected to excessive strain while executing it, labeling it as “exhausting.” His words were pivotal in the call for a ban, yet Jason opposed the notion and addressed the Bills owner, a primary supporter of the ban.
Responding to the controversy, Jason Kelce stated, “I think the respected gentleman from Buffalo seems to have misunderstood my use of the term grueling; I have never labeled the play as hazardous,” Kelce wrote on his X account (formerly known as Twitter), replying to Bills owner Terry Pegula, who had argued against the Tush Push during the league summit by claiming that Kelce “retired due to the wear and tear caused by the play.”
“Should the NFL wish to summon me for genuine insights on the Tush Push under oath, I’d be happy to provide my testimony,” Kelce also clarified his position to Packers President Mark Murphy, who had cited Kelce’s earlier remarks as part of the rationale to outlaw the play.
