Chicago Bulls’ Trade Deadline Moves and Torrey Craig’s Fresh Start

Chicago Bulls’ Quiet Trade Deadline

Heading into the trade deadline, the Chicago Bulls were widely expected to be one of the most active teams in the market. With speculation surrounding veterans like Nikola Vucevic and younger players such as Coby White, many anticipated significant roster changes. However, when the dust settled, the Bulls had made only one major move: trading Zach LaVine to the Sacramento Kings in a three-team deal.

Breaking Down the Zach LaVine Trade

In exchange for LaVine, the Bulls acquired Zach Collins, Tre Jones, Kevin Huerter, and their 2025 first-round pick. While this move signaled a shift in Chicago’s roster strategy, it also meant parting ways with forward Torrey Craig, who was waived to create space for the new additions.

Torrey Craig’s New Opportunity with the Celtics

Following his departure from Chicago, Craig found a new home with the reigning NBA champions, the Boston Celtics. The veteran forward wasted no time making an impact, debuting in front of the electrifying Boston crowd.

“It was crazy – the atmosphere, the crowd, the fans,” Craig said after his first game. “It’s just a joy to play in front of a crowd like that. I’m just glad I made my debut in the Garden, and I’m glad I hit my first shot.”

Craig’s Impressive Celtics Debut

In his first game with Boston against the San Antonio Spurs, Craig made the most of his limited playing time. In just under nine minutes, he went a perfect 2-for-2 from the field, scoring six points while also contributing an assist and a block. His efficient performance showcased his ability to make an immediate impact despite not seeing much action with the Bulls earlier in the season.

Bulls Fans May Not See Craig Again This Season

For Bulls fans hoping to see Craig face his former team in a regular-season matchup, that opportunity has already passed. Chicago and Boston do not have any remaining scheduled games against each other, meaning a playoff meeting would be the only chance for a potential reunion on the court.

Craig’s performance in Boston raises questions about whether Chicago made the right call in letting him go. While the Bulls may have gained valuable assets in the LaVine trade, Craig’s early success with the Celtics suggests he still has plenty to offer on a contending team.
