Novak Djokovic and Nick Kyrgios kicked off their 2025 campaign in fine fashion after winning their debut doubles match in Brisbane. The duo, who, for the first time in their careers, paired in the tournament, entertained the crowd with some excellent shots. They will return to the court on Tuesday (December 31) for the second round.

Djokovic was back on the court after being away for over two months. His partner Kyrgios was competing in his first tour-level match in 18 months. Nevertheless, the duo produced sublime moments of skills that served as an immediate reminder of their natural abilities on the court.

The pair won the first set in a flash after giving their opponents Alexander Erler and Andreas Miles no chance in the match. But they found themselves on the losing end in the second set after being unable to convert any of their three break point opportunities. They eventually earned a crucial tight match tiebreak to win 6-4 6-7 (4) 10-8.

After the close and entertaining contest, Djokovic revealed that it was a pleasure playing beside Kyrgios on the court. He added that he followed all the instructions his partner gave during the match.

Djokovic and Kyrgios will face Croatia’s Nikola Mektić and Australian Michael Venus in the second round. They will be looking forward to reaching the quarterfinals of the ATP 250 event in Brisbane.

Nick Kyrgios last played a competitive match at the 2022 Stuttgart Open before making his appearance on Monday (December 30) at the Brisbane International. The Aussie has struggled with ligament and knee injuries and has undergone surgeries also. But the former World No. 13 didn’t show any sign of rust in his win alongside Novak Djokovic.

After the win, the Aussie that he was glad to be back after going through a brutal injury spell. This injury has been brutal for me so I wasn’t taking any of this for granted.

However, Kyrgios and Djokovic will be on the court on Tuesday (December 31) for their first singles match at the 2025 Brisbane International. The former will play against France’s Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, while Djokovic take on Rinky Hijikata.
