Novak Djokovic’s first career Grand Slam came at the Australian Open in 2008. The young Serbian at that time broke Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer’s dominance and went on to establish himself as one of the biggest up-and-coming stars. Seventeen years later, Djokovic has one wish at the Australian Open.

Djokovic was bound to claim his 100th career ATP Tour title in Brisbane but he fell short in the end. He did win his opening two matches but was stunned by Reilly Opelka in the quarterfinals. However, the 37-year-old legend isn’t a player who struggles with confidence. Having won 24 career Grand Slams, he is among the favorites to win the 2025 Australian Open.

Fortunately for him, he will be joined by his new coach Andy Murray, who was not with him in Brisbane. The 36-year-old British legend is a three-time major winner with abundant experience in the game that is surely going to bring a spark to Djokovic’s game. However, Djokovic will be aiming for a record-extending 11th Australian Open title in Melbourne.

During a recent interview, he opened up about his priorities for the 2025. The priority among them was winning the Australian Open, at least for one more time as he heads closer to retirement.

Djokovic will undoubtedly get a rousing reception at Rod Laver Arena, having had so many unforgettable memories there over the years. Perhaps his good relationship with the fans can give him the needed push to win the Australian Open, which starts on January 12.

In 2022, Novak Djokovic was caught in a web of serious controversy at the Australian Open. The Serbian arrived for the event but was not vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus, which led to the Australian government canceling his visa. He was held at the immigration hotel for five before being forced to leave the country.

The 37-year-old missed the 2022 Australian Open because of the issue. However, three years after being deported because of COVID restrictions, Djokovic revealed in the aforementioned interview that he still experiences trauma when he visits Melbourne.

Djokovic did return to Melbourne the following year with COVID restrictions eased. He went on to win the title for a record 10th time, after defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final.
