According to NBA insiders Marc Stein and Jake Fischer, Josh Giddey will seek a deal that pays him $30 million annually in restricted free agency.
Giddey becomes a restricted free agent this offseason. The forward is in his first season with the Chicago Bulls.
“Giddey, meanwhile, averaged 20.9 points, 9.8 rebounds and 8.9 assists in March and just beat the Los Angeles Lakers with a halfcourt buzzer-beater that won’t soon be forgotten,” Stein and Fischer wrote. “He’ll be a restricted free agent this summer and is expected to seek a new multiyear deal that pays at least $30 million annually … in line with the contracts landed by other top guards in his draft class like Orlando’s Jalen Suggs and Atlanta’s Jalen Johnson.”
The Bulls acquired Giddey from the Oklahoma City Thunder. Giddey is averaging 14.2 points, 7.8 rebounds and 6.9 assists this season while shooting 46.6% from the field, 38.0% from beyond the arc and 77.7% from the free-throw line.
As a restricted free agent, Giddey can sign an offer sheet with any team. The Bulls would have 48 hours to match the offer sheet or let the swingman walk.
Giddey has career averages of 14.0 points, 7.4 rebounds and 6.0 assists with the Thunder and Bulls. He was the sixth overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft.
Chicago is in ninth place in the Eastern Conference standings with a record of 33-41. If the season ended today, the Bulls would face the Miami Heat in the 9-10 play-in game.
Billy Donovan’s Bulls are sixth in the NBA in points per game, 28th in points per game allowed, 20th in offensive rating, 23rd in defensive rating and 21st in net rating.
