Green Bay Packers coach Matt LaFleur has made two moves to make sure his coaching staff remains intact, signing assistant head coach / special teams Rich Bisaccia to an extension and hiring defensive consultant Luke Getsy to a full-time position as offensive senior assistant, sources said.
Bisaccia, one of the highest-paid special teams coordinators in the NFL, had one year remaining on his contract, according to a source. It is believed another year was added, guaranteeing that Bisaccia, 64, would have plenty of incentive to stick around at least two more years.
There were league sources who said there were rumblings that Bisaccia might retire, but the new deal assures he’ll return as special teams coordinator and LaFleur’s game management adviser.
The Packers’ special teams ranked 29th in Rick Gosselin’s annual ratings in Bisaccia’s first year, but saw improvement in kickoff coverage (No. 9 to No. 2 in the league) and kickoff returns (No. 23 to No. 19) in 2024. Punter Daniel Whelan showed slight improvement in his numbers and the Packers blocked a last-second field goal to beat the Chicago Bears in Week 11.
The kicking game was a disaster until general manager Brian Gutekunst signed veteran Brandon McManus, who connected on 20 of 22 field goals, including two last-second game-winners, and all 31 of his extra points. He missed a 38-yard field goal in the 22-10 wild-card playoff loss to the Eagles.

Bisaccia’s units also had some bad moments during the season, starting with kick returner Keisean Nixon’s decision to return a ball from 8 yards deep in the end zone with 27 seconds left and the Packers down 34-29 in the season opener against Philadelphia. Nixon also fumbled on the opening kickoff of the playoff game, setting up the Eagles for a touchdown and early 7-0 lead.
Bisaccia also didn’t have his team ready for a trick punt return against Chicago that resulted in a 94-yard return in a Week 18 loss to the Bears. In the same game, LaFleur called a timeout on the Packers’ final possession that gave the Bears enough time to drive for the winning score after the Packers had taken the lead on McManus’ 55-yard field goal.
The only subtractions from LaFleur’s staff so far are quarterbacks coach Tom Clements (retired) and defensive line coach Jason Rebrovich (fired).
Teams with new head coaches are still seeking to poach assistant coaches from other staffs, so it’s possible one or two of LaFleur’s assistants could be pursued.
Luke Getsy will be senior offensive assistant, for now
According to a source, LaFleur rehired Getsy to be a senior offensive assistant, although his title could change if offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich leaves. Getsy served under LaFleur as quarterbacks coach in 2019 and quarterbacks coach/passing game coordinator in 2020-21.
Getsy, who left the Packers in ’22 to become Chicago’s offensive coordinator and served as Las Vegas’ offensive coordinator for part of the ’24 season, wound up back in Green Bay in the middle of last year after the Raiders fired him. LaFleur hired him to analyze future opponents’ offenses for defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley.
For the quarterbacks position, LaFleur could promote offensive assistant Sean Mannion, hire someone from outside or assign Getsy some of those duties.
Offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich has received interest from other teams
Stenavich has received some interest around the league for a promotion. The Bears interviewed him for their vacant head coaching position before hiring Detroit offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and the Seattle Seahawks interviewed him for their vacant coordinator’s position, according to CBS Sportsline, before hiring Klint Kubiak.
Stenavich doesn’t call plays for the Packers and would have for the Bears and Seahawks.
There are offensive coordinator positions open with the Houston Texans, Las Vegas Raiders, New York Jets, Dallas Cowboys, New Orleans Saints and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, so Stenavich still could wind up elsewhere. Those teams are also looking for assistant coaches to fill their staffs and may seek permission to speak to some of Green Bay’s assistants.
It’s possible passing game coordinator Jason Vrable, who is serving as offensive coordinator of the National team at the Senior Bowl this week, will draw interest for a coordinator’s position as well.
LaFleur has not announced a replacement for Rebrovich. He has interviewed multiple candidates for the position, including New York Jets defensive line coach Aaron Whitecotton.
