Packers expected to target Bengals’ $21 million star two-time 1,000-yard receiver to address major need -kid

If the Cincinnati Bengals are unable to sign wide receiver Tee Higgins for the long haul, he’s going to have plenty of suitors on the open market. One team that could pursue Higgins if he’s available is the Green Bay Packers.

In an ideal world, the Bengals would love to keep Higgins, and the former second-round pick has expressed interest in staying. However, with Cincinnati set to pay superstar wideout Ja’Marr Chase a massive sum of money, the Bengals could let Higgins walk.

If that happens, Acme Packing Co.’s Justin Mosqueda thinks the Packers could have interest in the two-time 1,000-yard receiver. Here’s what Mosqueda wrote about that.

Tee Higgins has 'no clue' about future with Bengals

“Just about every Packers fan has kept tabs on Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins ever since Green Bay made the decision to take quarterback Jordan Love over Higgins in the 2020 NFL draft,” he wrote. “In his five seasons in the league, Higgins has posted 330 receptions for 4,595 yards and 34 touchdowns, despite splitting passes with receivers like Ja’Marr Chase and Tyler Boyd.

“If the 25-year-old hits the open market, expect him to have a lot of suitors. The only question is whether or not the Bengals will tag him or let him walk, similar to Xavier McKinney’s situation with the New York Giants last year,” he concluded.

Mosqueda brings up a valid point. The Bengals also have the option of tagging Higgins and trading him instead of letting him go for nothing. That could impact some teams’ interest in acquiring the veteran wide receiver.

But that should not deter the Packers, a team that is in good shape in terms of draft capital and needs to make improvements to put itself in a better position to win a Super Bowl.

On top of needing a reinforcement for Christian Watson, who is likely to miss the start of next season after tearing his ACL in January, the Packers could use an established veteran presence in the wide receivers room.

Not only would Higgins check that box, he’d immediately become the Packers’ best wide receiver and a legitimate No. 1 option for quarterback Jordan Love. The big concern with Higgins, however, is that he’s had issues staying healthy, with 10 games missed over the past two seasons.

According to Spotrac, Higgins is estimated to land a contract that pays him $100.2 million over four years, which works out to $25.1 million per year. The Packers are set to have $37.1 million in effective cap space, so they can make that deal work.

With Higgins in the mix, the Packers would have a strong No. 1 and an impressive wide receivers room that would also include Watson when he’s healthy, Jayden Reed, Romeo Doubs and Dontayvion Wicks.

Green Bay could also opt to trade one of their young receivers, especially if they need to recoup some draft capital after trading for Higgins.
