Packers insider sheds new light on chances of a Jaire Alexander trade.D

Jaire Alexander is Still a Packer—But For How Long?

A Split Feels Inevitable

Believe it or not, Jaire Alexander is still on the Green Bay Packers’ roster. I had to double-check myself.

For months, it has felt like an eventual and inevitable breakup between Alexander and the Packers was on the horizon. Whether due to contract issues, team dynamics, or performance concerns, all signs have pointed toward a split being not just possible, but necessary.

Speculation Runs Wild

Things really started to heat up last week when ESPN Packers insider Rob Demovsky suggested that a move could happen within hours or days. That didn’t materialize—hey, it happens to the best of us—but the lack of immediate action doesn’t change the bigger picture. The Packers still appear determined to move on.

In a recent article from Demovsky covering new Packers cornerback Nate Hobbs, an interesting update was tucked away regarding Alexander’s situation.

NFL Trade Rumors: Green Bay Packers Will Likely Release Jaire Alexander Without a Trading Partner

Packers Are Still Trying to Trade Alexander

According to team sources and a source close to Alexander, the Packers are actively shopping him. They aren’t in a rush, but ideally, they’d like to get something done before next month’s draft.

One key detail? The team hasn’t even approached Alexander about taking a pay cut—because, reportedly, he wouldn’t be open to it anyway. That makes things tricky, as his contract is set to pay him $17.5 million when the regular season begins. Without a trade partner, the Packers could release him, but there’s no urgency yet since he has no guaranteed money left on his deal until the season starts.

The Waiting Game Continues

So now we wait. General manager Brian Gutekunst is still holding out hope that someone—anyone—will take the bait. It only takes one desperate team to make a move, and let’s be honest, there’s always a franchise out there willing to make a questionable trade. The Dallas Cowboys, anyone?

As we head into Week 2 of free agency, nothing has changed. Alexander is still a Packer, and the Packers still wish he wasn’t. Maybe by Week 3, we’ll have a trade to talk about.

Or at the very least, a cryptic Instagram post to dissect.
