Packers lose linebacker to hated rival in NFL free agency image

In recent years, a new trend has been forming. During an NFL offseason, it has become a near-guarantee that the Minnesota Vikings will end up signing at least one former Green Bay Packers’ player. They seem to be trying to lure in any player they can from the NFC North rival.

Once again, the Packers have lost one of their players from the 2024 season to the Vikings.

Packers boost special teams by re-signing LB Eric Wilson

According to a report from Alec Lewis of The Athletic, Minnesota has agreed to terms with linebacker Eric Wilson. He has played with Green Bay for the last three years.

“Sounds like the Vikings have agreed to terms with former Packers LB Eric Wilson, per source. Wilson played more than 500 defensive snaps last year in GB, key special teamer as well. Vikings needed depth with Kamu Grugier-Hill becoming FA.”

Losing Wilson was expected for the Packers. After they chose to re-sign linebacker Isaiah McDuffie this offseason, it was clear that Wilson would not end up being back.

During the 2024 season in Green Bay, Wilson ended up playing in all 17 games. He recorded 72 tackles, two sacks, a forced fumble, an interception, and two defended passes.

Clearly, the 30-year-old linebacker can make an impact all across the field. He will be a nice pickup for the Vikings’ defense. Whether he starts or is more of a depth piece, he’s a quality addition.

As for the Packers, fans are getting anxious. Brian Gutekunst has signed just two players, offensive lineman Aaron Banks and cornerback Nate Hobbs. There is still a lot more that needs to be done if Green Bay is going to be a top-tier Super Bowl contender in 2025.
