Packers WRs react to Josh Jacobs’ comments about the receiving room heading into 2025-kid

Josh Jacobs thinks the Green Bay Packers need a bona fide wide receiver one to be a real Super Bowl contender in 2025. Well, not everyone agrees with that perception.

Right after the running back shared his honest opinion during Super Bowl week at the Radio Row, Dontayvion Wicks made it clear that he has a different perspective.

Jayden Reed also talked about the topic, although he focused on the fans on social media and how they reacted to Jacobs’ comments.

General manager Brian Gutekunst doesn’t seem too concerned about the receiving room, though. He expects growth inside the group, even though he didn’t rule out adding more pieces.

Josh Jacobs Sends Blunt 6-Word Message to Packers Front Office, Candidly Reveals Green Bay's Biggest Need

“At the current moment we have some injured guys we’re gonna have to work through. I think those guys did a good job, I thought there was a period of time in the middle of the season where we were a very explosive football team. All those guys grew individually in different ways,” Gutekunst said after the season. “It was interesting, as we went through the season, guys took on different roles, nobody established their own role, so to speak. We’ll kind of see how that develops through the offseason and into the next season. But I thought they did some really nice things with Jordan (Love).”

It was a tough season for the Packers’ young receivers, for sure. Wicks and Jayden Reed were tied for third in drops in 2024, with nine, and Romeo Doubs was tied for ninth with seven. To make things worse, Christian Watson tore his ACL and is expected to miss two thirds of next regular season.

All those factors led the Packers to have their lower passing rate since 2003.

Jayden Reed led the receiving group for the second consecutive year, with 55 receptions, 857 yards, and six touchdowns.

A fifth-round pick in 2023, Wicks entered 2024 as a potential breakout star, but actually regressed when compared to his rookie season. In 2023, he had 39 receptions for 581 yards and four touchdowns. In 2024, he had more targets, but drops made him repeat the 39 receptions, with 415 yards, and five touchdowns—even playing two more games.
