On December 25, after the Kansas City Chiefs secured a 29-10 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers and clinched the No. 1 seed in the AFC, quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce found themselves in for a sweet surprise. During a post-game interview with senior NFL reporter Stacey Dales, the duo was presented with football-shaped cakes, courtesy of Netflix.
In a lighthearted moment captured on video and shared on X (formerly Twitter) by the team, Kelce struggled to open his cake before finally cracking it open to reveal the treat inside.
“Oh yeah, look at that,” Kelce exclaimed, holding up the cake. “A little red velvet.”
While Kelce didn’t hesitate to take a bite, Mahomes opted to abstain, joking, “I’m watching my weight until playoffs, you know?”
Kelce, always quick with a quip, chimed in: “More push-aways than pull-ins, that’s what Coach [Andy] Reid would say,” as he continued to enjoy the red velvet dessert.td
When asked by Dales how the cake tasted, Kelce described it as “very red velvety” and added, “I’m gonna take this into the locker room and get some victory cake.” Mahomes, however, had a different plan: “Coach Reid’s ready for it. I’ll be taking it to him.”
Family Celebrations and Holiday Joy
Beyond the lighthearted cake moment, Mahomes reflected on the win’s significance for his family. With his wife Brittany Mahomes, 30, expecting their third child, the quarterback shared a heartfelt sentiment: “I told my wife I was gonna get her the No. 1 seed so we can go have that baby.” The couple, who already have two children, Sterling Skye, 3, and Bronze, 2, are eagerly anticipating their newest addition.td
Kelce, meanwhile, celebrated the holiday spirit with his girlfriend, Taylor Swift. The pair spread cheer by gifting beautifully wrapped presents to Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones and his girlfriend, Sheawna Weathersby.
Weathersby shared her gratitude on Instagram, posting a photo of the gifts under a festive tree with a card signed, “Merry Christmas” from “Travis and Taylor.” Her caption read, “So blessed & grateful this holiday season. Thank youuuu, Tay Tay!!!”
Looking Ahead
With the regular season nearing its end, the Chiefs have one more game against the Denver Broncos in Denver before heading into the playoffs. Their sights are set on securing another Super Bowl title, and the camaraderie and joy displayed post-game underscore the strong bond within the team.
From red velvet cakes to thoughtful holiday gifts, the Chiefs’ victory celebration showcased not just their on-field dominance but also their off-field connections—making this Christmas one to remember.
