Phillies Gamble Future for Present Glory: $50M All-Star Acquisition Costs Beloved Prospects TS.DHUNG.

The Philadelphia Phillies have a star-studded roster but may need more fire-power to compete with the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League.

The Phillies could be looking for an upgrade in the outfield this summer. Clutch Points’ Bailey Bassett proposed this trade that would bring an All-Star from the Chicago White Sox to Philadephia:

  • Phillies receive: outfielder Luis Robert Jr.
  • White Sox receive: outfielder Justion Crawford, outfielder Gabriel Rincones Jr. and infielder Aroon Escobar

The White Sox are clearly in rebuild mode after a historically poor season. Robert signed a six-year, $50 million extension in 2020. He is due $15 million next season and has $20 million club options for 2026 and 2027. He has struggled with injuries, but 2023 was the first time he stayed relatively healthy and was named an All-Star, hitting 38 home runs.

“The Phillies are stacked on offense, so Robert would fit right in because he has middle-of-the-order talent,” wrote Bassett. “Having so much talent around him would take some of the pressure off and potentially change how teams pitch to their lineup. He’d help on defense as well. Robert has killer speed, which is something the Phillies lack.”

Robert will be a name to watch at the trade deadline. He himself was surprised he even made it to opening day with the White Sox.

“Honestly, no,” Robert responded to 670 The Score’s Chris Emma when he asked if he expected to be on the White Sox opening day roster. “I know there were a lot of rumors around there. I didn’t think I would be here. But I’m glad that I’m here…. This was the organization that gave me the chance to make my dream come true, and this is the organization that I know.”
