In recent years, numerous jokes have circulated about ex-Green Bay Packers players relocating to the New York Jets. However, the impact of adding former Packers to the Jets isn’t quite the same now that they’ve parted ways with Aaron Rodgers, a four-time NFL MVP. The Rodgers era in New York didn’t unfold as the team had hoped.
After the Packers traded the future Hall of Famer to the Jets before the 2023 NFL season, many anticipated they would become Super Bowl contenders. Instead, Rodgers missed nearly all of 2024 and led the Jets to a disappointing 5-12 record that season. Besides cutting ties with Rodgers, the Jets have also ended their associations with several ex-Packers brought in to please him.
Among them, wide receiver Allen Lazard, might still remain with the team. During the last offseason and the current one, the Jets have bid farewell to several ex-Packers, notably wide receivers Randall Cobb and Davante Adams. Both were favorites of Rodgers during their time in Green Bay, and New York hoped their presence might help him reclaim some of his past prowess.
Cobb now serves as an analyst for the SEC Network, while Adams has recently joined the Los Angeles Rams as a free agent. The wide receiver many thought would be first to leave was Allen Lazard, but it looks like he may continue with New York.
Lazard, who became Green Bay’s leading wide receiver after Adams’ exit in 2022, had the second-best year of his career in 2024, despite playing only 12 games. Last year, he recorded 37 catches for 530 yards and six touchdowns. In 2022, his only season as Rodgers’ primary target with the Packers, he amassed 60 receptions for 788 yards and six touchdowns.
