The Miami Dolphins finished their 2024 season with an 8-9 record, in second place in the AFC East (behind only the Buffalo Bills) and outside of the postseason again as quarterback Tua Tagovailoa missed significant time with another head injury (as well as a hip).

Now, three years into the Mike McDaniel-Chris Grier regime, the Dolphins have made the postseason twice but have yet to make it beyond the wild-card round. With that, Miami may consider making moves to retool their roster with the hope that they can give themselves a better chance to contend long-term.

At this point, the Dolphins could move on from wide receiver Tyreek Hill, who has been a key piece of their offense for the last three seasons. Interestingly, Sporting News’ Austen Bundy recently listed the Green Bay Packers as one of the best trade destinations for the speedy wideout.

Hill, 31, played collegiately at Garden City Community College, Oklahoma State and West Alabama, earning All-Big 12 honors in his lone season with the Cowboys.

The Kansas City Chiefs selected Hill in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL draft, giving him a rotational role on offense and the main return duties as a rookie. In six years with Kansas City, he won a Super Bowl, made six Pro Bowls and earned All-Pro honors three times.

Ahead of the 2022 season, Miami sent a package of five draft picks to the Chiefs for Hill’s services. He’s spent the last three seasons as the Dolphins top receiver, earning Pro Bowl and All-Pro honors two more times and leading the NFL in both yards and touchdowns in 2023.

This past year, Hill played in all 17 games and caught 81 passes for 959 yards and six scores. Pro Football Focus gave him a 72.7 overall grade for his performance, ranking him 43rd out of 98 qualified NFL wide receivers in 2024. He also earned a 77.3 receiving grade, good for 28th.

At the end of the season, Hill hinted at wanting to be traded, but he’s since walked that back. Miami could still move on from the wideout and get some value back for him in a trade. They wouldn’t be better in 2025 for sending him out, but it could set them up with a brighter future.

Green Bay has been hoping that one of their young receivers breaks out as a true No. 1. However, Jayden Reed, Romeo Doubs, Dontayvion Wicks and Christian Watson are all under 26 and haven’t shown that yet. Adding Hill could benefit that whole group, giving them easier matchups and giving quarterback Jordan Love a legitimate game-changer at the position.
