DeMarcus Lawrence mentioned he parted ways with the Cowboys because he felt winning a Super Bowl there was out of reach. Another player who recently left Dallas offers a different perspective.
Rico Dowdle, who rushed for 1,000 yards last season, moved to the Carolina Panthers and was asked about Lawrence’s remarks. Dowdle cleverly highlighted the flaw in Lawrence’s reasoning. “Everyone is entitled to their own thoughts and opinions,” Dowdle shared with The Athletic.
“DeMarcus has been part of the team for several years, so that’s just his viewpoint. He hasn’t claimed a Super Bowl victory during his time, so perhaps he believed it was impossible there.” Dowdle’s observation hits home.
Lawrence spent 11 years with Dallas without ever reaching the championship game. Dowdle’s departure also reflects the lukewarm market for running backs rather than agreement with Lawrence’s view. He stated he neither supported nor opposed Lawrence’s opinion.
Now, it’s a waiting game to see if their former team in Dallas or their new ones in Seattle and Carolina will capture a Super Bowl title in the foreseeable future.
