The Miami Dolphins had limited avenues to overhaul their roster, yet they managed to secure dependable playmakers on both offense and defense as the league year commenced. By freeing up some salary cap space, they re-signed crucial offensive talents and made what could be one of their most overlooked acquisitions this off-season.
Former Tennessee Titans wide receiver Nick Westbrook-Ikhine was brought on board with a one-year contract valued at $6.5 million. After going undrafted in 2020, he spent five seasons with the Titans. Westbrook-Ikhine is coming off his best season with the Titans, having recorded 32 catches for 497 yards and nine touchdowns, topping the team in receiving touchdowns and proving to be a formidable red-zone asset.
Dolphins Talk analyst Mike Oliva recently shared with DougDoWrong that Westbrook-Ikhine is among the team’s most underappreciated signings this off-season. Oliva elaborated on the deal by saying, “The signing I’m most fond of so far is wide receiver Nick Westbrook Ikhine—two years; $6.5 million, with $3.2 million guaranteed. The guy caught nine touchdowns on 32 receptions from Mason Rudolph and Will Levis. He genuinely addresses a need.
Third wide receiver, check, problem solved.” Doug echoed Mike’s sentiment regarding Westbrook-Ikhine’s role in the offense. “It’s precisely what we needed to stop relying on Tyreek Hill for fades that make no sense.” Westbrook-Ikhine is expected to play a pivotal role in the Dolphins’ offensive strategies, particularly enhancing their red-zone passing game, an area where the team has previously faced challenges.
