Report: Aaron Rodgers may retire instead of playing for Steelers in 2025.THANHDUNG

The anti-Aaron Rodgers crowd in the Steel City may have had their wish granted—the four-time MVP may retire rather than play for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2025.

Rodgers was down to three potential landing spots after his two-year tenure with the New York Jets ended in disappointment—the Minnesota Vikings, the New York Giants, and the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Vikings and Giants both chose to lead their 2025 passing attacks with different signal callers in mind—J.J. McCarthy and former Steelers QB Russell Wilson, respectively—leaving Rodgers with only one potential landing spot… or so we thought.

Nothing has come from Rodgers’ camp itself, so the report should be taken with a grain of salt. However, insider Adam Schefter recently dropped a bombshell during an appearance on ESPN Milwaukee’s Jen, Gabe, and Chewy:

“They [Steelers and Rodgers] both need each other right now, frankly. And that’s if Aaron wants to play—which I’m not convinced that he does.”

Schefter stated that the only thing that would change his opinion on Rodgers’ potential retirement is hearing the four-time MVP himself declare that he wants to play in 2025. He followed it up with an even more definitive take:

Rodgers is coming off a torn Achilles in 2023, a 5-12 Jets season in 2024, and a release from New York this past offseason. It would come as no surprise if he chose to hang it up instead of playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2025.
