REPORT: Chiefs welcome reunion candidate to Kansas City, add 3 more players to training camp tryouts.

Former TCU tight end Geor’Quarius Spivey is trying out with the Kansas City Chiefs once again.

The Kansas City Chiefs began their three-day mandatory minicamp on June 17, and starting right guard Trey Smith was indeed in attendance as expected, along with three new faces and one KC returnee.

Arrowhead Pride’s John Dixon reported four Chiefs minicamp tryouts on June 17, including tight end Geor’Quarius Spivey — who was on the Kansas City training camp roster last summer.

The other three newcomers were wide receiver Tanner Knue, offensive tackle Ricky Lee and center Joe Lombard. More on each prospect below.

All four of these tryouts have one thing in common: none of them were drafted into the NFL.

Beginning with Spivey, the former Mississippi State and TCU pass-catcher flaunts height (6-foot-5) and untapped potential at the tight end position. And we’ve seen head coach Andy Reid bring in TEs like this many times in the past.

Spivey made it to the final round of cuts in 2024 but failed to secure a spot on the 53-man roster or the practice squad, hauling in his lone preseason target for a 7-yard gain. He caught 7-of-13 targets for 65 yards with the UFL’s Houston Roughnecks this spring and first entered the NFL in 2024.

Similarly, Knue began his pro career as a UDFA last spring, signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The 5-foot-11 wideout caught 9-of-13 targets for 86 yards and 1 touchdown over three preseason outings, but has yet to suit up for a regular-season game. In college, Knue accumulated 1,866 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns over four campaigns at Eastern Michigan.

The Buccaneers tried Knue out as a returner last summer, so he has some experience in that regard, too.

Lee is the most veteran member of this group, entering the NFL in 2023. He was a UDFA with the Carolina Panthers and spent his first two preseason periods with the NFC South franchise, appearing in six regular-season outings.

Chiefs Host Reunion Candidate, 3 Other Minicamp Tryouts: Report

The 6-foot-5 Lee has bounced around a few different practice squads since then, and is listed as an offensive tackle. In college, he split a four-year career between NC Central and North Carolina A&T, and Lee also played 10 games for the UFL’s Arlington Renegades this spring.

Finally, you have the 6-foot-5 center prospect, Lombard, a rookie out of South Dakota.

Dixon relayed that “Lombard spent his entire college career with the Coyotes, becoming the starting center in his redshirt sophomore season after starting 11 games at left guard in the previous two years.

The Chiefs had one absence at mandatory minicamp on June 17, but it was not Smith or superstar tight end Travis Kelce. FOX4 KC’s Taylor Burr was among those sharing video of Kelce on Tuesday.

Per Arrowhead Pride and Dixon once again: “As practice began, only tight end Tre Watson was absent.”

The undrafted rookie has been missing in action a lot this spring, but the Chiefs have kept him on the 90-man roster despite that. So, while it is strange for a UDFA to miss key practice sessions, there must be more to this story if KC is keeping Watson around.

Along with Smith and Kelce, wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster and linebacker Drue Tranquill were both present at day one of Chiefs minicamp after missing last Thursday’s voluntary OTA practice.
