REPORT: Eagles told to intentionally lose to protect their NFL future-HN

Adam Schefter advises the Philadelphia Eagles to lose the final game of the 2024/25 NFL season so that the New York Giants miss out on drafting Shedeur Sanders and remain stuck in their quarterback nightmare.

The 2-13 Giants are last in the NFC East and have the best odds of landing the first pick in the upcoming draft, where they would be expected to pick up the Colorado Buffaloes‘ QB after he created 39 touchdowns in the NCAA.

That would allow them to final move on from their horrific decision to pay Daniel Jones $160 million dollars over four years, who they finally made the decision to cut from their roster on November 22.

If they can fix their QB problems then the Giants have the chance to get back into the mix in the NFC East to join the Washington Commanders and Dallas Cowboys in their quest to displace the Eagles, who made the Super Bowl in 2023.

But here’s the catch, and why Schefter theorizes Jalen Hurts‘ team should lose: they take on the Giants in Week 18 on Sunday, January 5 in the final game of the regular season before the NFL Playoffs.

“They’d want to sit down, rest their players,” Schefter told ESPN. “And make sure the Giants win that last game.

“So the Giants then fall from one or two to seven and don’t get their quarterback of the future. So there’s the hidden meaning.”

Who stands to gain if the Giants win?

As things stand going into Week 17 (December 25-28), a victory for New York would see them leap from last in the entire NFL to sixth-last and thus weaken their own chances in the draft from April 24-26.

That could open the door to the Las Vegas Raiders to pick up the Buffaloes‘ star, who also passed for 3926 yards and allowed just eight interceptions, as well as the lowly Tennessee Titans.

The Raiders are currently fourth-worst in the NFL behind the Giants and Titans and New England Patriots, but the Patriots are happy with Drake Maye and will likely not be in the market for a quarterback.

The same can’t be said for the Raiders, who have struggled with Aiden O’Connell and Gardner Minshew, and the Titans, who have struggled with Will Levis and Mason Rudolph too.

The latter pair have combined for 20 touchdowns but have allowed 20 interceptions too.
