REPORT: Former Dak Prescott backup QB on Cowboys confirms he’s joining Saints after Derek Carr’s injury.

Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Ben DiNucci has reportedly signed with another NFC franchise following his exit from the Lone Star State.

The Dallas Cowboys’ postseason window is nearly closed following Monday’s 27-20 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. With less than a 1% chance at qualifying for the postseason, per NFL Next Gen Stats, now’s a good time to check in on what certain ex-Cowboys are up to.

Ben DiNucci is a name that Dallas fans haven’t heard in quite some time. The 28-year-old began his NFL career with the Cowboys but has since bounced around various organizations since being released by owner/general manager Jerry Jones in August 2022.

DiNucci last played with the Buffalo Bills during the preseason but was released before the regular season began. Nearly four months after his release, the ex-Cowboys QB has found another new employer.

While NFL insiders usually report signing-related news, the veteran signal-caller took matters into his own hands on Tuesday morning.

“I have fun news,” DiNucci posted on X, citing himself as the “fairly credible” source. “I signed with the (New Orleans) Saints this morning.”

The Saints are in desperate need of QB help as Derek Carr is dealing with a potential season-ending hand injury, per NFL.com’s Kevin Patra. With backups Spencer Rattler and Jake Haener struggling under center this season, it’s possible that DiNucci could start against the Washington Commanders in Week 15.

If DiNucci does play this weekend, it’ll be his first regular-season action since he played for the Cowboys in 2020. The ex-James Madison product made three appearances (1 start) that season due to QBs Dak Prescott and Andy Dalton’s injuries, completing 53.5% of passes for 219 yards and a 67.9 passer rating.

Since leaving the Cowboys, DiNucci has spent time on the Bills and Denver Broncos’ practice squads as well as a stint with the XFL’s Seattle Sea Dragons in 2023. He might be able to earn himself a backup job somewhere in the NFL next season if he proves to be a reliable signal-caller with the Saints.

Much to his dismay, though, DiNucci can’t get any revenge on the Cowboys this season. Dallas and New Orleans already faced off at AT&T Stadium back in Week 2, ending in a 44-19 blowout win for the Saints.

As DiNucci adjusts to his new home, the Cowboys will look to get back on track when they visit the lowly Carolina Panthers on Sunday.
