The Miami Dolphins are facing a crucial draft process in 2025. With a significant portion of their budget allocated to veteran players, it’s essential for the draft to help fill out the rest of the team. A key element of the draft is finding reliable depth players on day three.
Although Miami needs depth in several areas, the running back position hasn’t been widely discussed. Tony Pauline of Sportskeeda reports that the Dolphins attended the Michigan State pro day and showed interest in running back Nate Carter.
Miami focused on his pass-catching abilities during drills, which was a priority since Carter had only 18 receptions in 2024. Carter impressed not only in the catching drills but across the board. He recorded a 40-yard dash time of 4.37 seconds, standing 5’9” and weighing 200 pounds. These height-weight-speed metrics have caught the attention of NFL teams.
In the 2024 season at Michigan State, Carter played a limited role, accumulating 116 carries for 499 rushing yards and five touchdowns without any fumbles. Over his four-year college career, Carter never surpassed 186 carries, 795 rushing yards, or five touchdowns in a single season, totaling 2,271 rushing yards on 492 attempts with 12 touchdowns.
Despite a smaller body of work compared to other draft-eligible running backs, Carter’s athleticism and game tape make him an intriguing prospect for NFL teams in the 2025 NFL Draft. The Dolphins might consider selecting Carter in the sixth round or later, given the abundance of running back talent in the draft. The 2025 NFL Draft takes place from Thursday, April 24th, to Saturday, April 26th.
