Report: Nick Sirianni Apologized to Zach Ertz After Eagles-Commanders Postgame Spat-HN

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni reached out to Zach Ertz to clear the air with the Washington Commanders tight end, according to Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

McLane noted that Sirianni and Ertz “had to be separated by Eagles chief security officer Dom DiSandro” after Philly’s 36-33 loss to Washington, with neither shedding any light on what they said to one another.

The report could only offer that “their brief dust-up saw Ertz take exception to a comment Sirianni made about his performance in the game.”

McLane reported that Sirianni subsequently apologized to Ertz on a Zoom call.

Ertz spent eight-plus seasons with the Eagles, getting traded to the Arizona Cardinals midway through 2021. He’s second in franchise history in receptions (579) and fifth in receiving yards (6,267).

The 34-year-old doesn’t have a lot of history with Sirianni, though. Sirianni’s first year as the head coach was when Ertz got shipped out of town, and he didn’t have any experience on the Philly coaching staff before that.

Sirianni was highly complimentary of the three-time Pro Bowler when the Eagles and Commanders were preparing to cross paths in Week 11.

“I think, first and foremost, Zach is an all-time Eagle and was really honored to be around him,” the coach said. “And he’s still playing at a high level in this part of his career.

“So, going through that and him moving on, us moving on in the organization, him getting another fresh start, that was always a tough one because I did really come to really value Zach Ertz the person, Zach Ertz the player. Enjoyed the time I had around him.”

It sounds like Sirianni struck a much different tone in his exchange with Ertz earlier this month at Northwest Stadium.
