The Miami Dolphins are facing a significant shortage in their interior defensive line, and one of their top performers from last year remains unsigned. Veteran defensive lineman Calais Campbell, despite approaching his 39th birthday, still possesses the ability to make a substantial impact.
The six-time Pro Bowler joined Miami on a one-year contract last offseason and, although he played in a rotational capacity, he was a valuable asset to the defensive front. While a return to South Beach is possible, it’s more likely that Campbell will seek new opportunities if he wishes to continue his career.
Cory Woodruff of For The Win recently predicted that the seasoned player could secure one final shot at a Super Bowl by signing with the Kansas City Chiefs during the second week of NFL free agency. “Campbell deserves the chance to compete in another Super Bowl, and the Chiefs would offer him an excellent opportunity,” Woodruff commented.
Pairing Campbell with Chris Jones on the defensive line would provide defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo with numerous strategic options. Even in 2024, at an advanced age, Campbell recorded 5.0 sacks and 37 quarterback pressures over 378 pass-rush snaps, according to Next Gen Stats.
Spotrac estimates that Campbell could command a one-year contract worth $7 million in free agency, making him an attractive option for teams in need. Meanwhile, Miami continues its search for additional depth to support Zach Sieler, who has achieved consecutive seasons with 10.0 sacks.
