REPORT: Steelers predicted to replace Najee Harris with 6’0, 32-TD running back.THANHDUNG

The Pittsburgh Steelers have a solid duo at the running back position currently, with the team sporting Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren in the backfield. However, things with the Steelers running backs are murky beyond this season.

Both Harris and Warren are set to be free agents in 2025, although Warren being a restricted free agent means the Steelers will have some control over him. Harris, on the other hand, will be unrestricted after having his fifth-year option declined.

While the Steelers have not ruled out bringing Harris back next year, chances are the team will be looking to get cheaper at the position instead of shelling out what will be a significant running back contract.

Knowing that, Pro Football Network’s Brett Hoffman has the Steelers taking Iowa running back Kaleb Johnson with the No. 27 overall pick in his recent mock draft.

Kaleb Johnson is the epitome of a three-down workhorse, capable of managing a substantial workload. His patience in allowing blocks to set up before exploding through the gap showcases his advanced understanding of the game.

The Pittsburgh Steelers run the ball the second most of any team in the NFL this season. It’s no secret that coach Mike Tomlin believes in running the rock, especially late in the season for the frigid AFC North clashes.

Physically, Johnson is the archetype of a power back at 6’0″ and 225 pounds, with a knack for absorbing hits only to bounce back and break away for significant gains. His combination of size, strength, and vision makes him a legitimate threat on every down.

Johnson had a sensational 2024 season, rushing for 1,537 yards (6.4 yards per carry) and 21 touchdowns, while also adding 22 catches for 188 yards and two more scores. Johnson has over 3,000 yards from scrimmage and 32 total touchdowns over the past three years.

The Iowa product is an impressive power back who has upside as a pass-catcher, so he could be a three-down option at the next level. He would pair well with Warren, assuming the Steelers keep him in 2025.
