Rodgers Contacted Vikings About 2025 Season..anhtruc.

Aaron Rodgers plans to play for Green Bay Packers in 2021 season

In a recent interview, Aaron Rodgers offered some insights into his offseason decision-making, but one thing is clear: the four-time MVP hasn’t decided where he will play in 2025. Despite being a free agent, Rodgers’ offseason plans might have taken a significant twist if one phone call had turned into a contract.

According to Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell, during the NFL owner’s meeting in late March, Rodgers reached out about the possibility of playing for Minnesota. Rodgers, not the Vikings, initiated the conversation—showing a genuine interest in donning purple and gold.

O’Connell shared, “He happened to be at a point in time in his career where he was free to have some real dialogue about what his future may look like. And we happened to be one of those teams that he reached out to.” This revelation, brought to light through O’Connell’s comments to ESPN, underscores the notion that Rodgers considered a move to Minnesota as a potential chapter in his storied career.

Furthering the intrigue, Albert Breer from Sports Illustrated reported that Rodgers pitched a plan to the Vikings: a one-year push for the Lombardi Trophy, with the added benefit of mentoring young quarterback J.J. McCarthy. It’s a scenario that would have added a fascinating dynamic to the NFL landscape—a veteran quarterback respected for his mental acumen and arm talent working alongside a rising star.

When speaking to Pat McAfee, Rodgers didn’t outright deny Breer’s report but made it clear he’s not waiting around for the Vikings to make a move. “There are a lot of narratives that haven’t been anywhere near accurate,” Rodgers said, pointing out that even former quarterbacks like Ben Roethlisberger have fueled misconceptions about his next potential landing spot.

Roethlisberger’s podcast comments suggested Rodgers was holding out for Minnesota, a notion Rodgers rebutted, although not Breer’s account. What’s evident is that Rodgers and O’Connell share a long-standing friendship, stemming from their time training together over a decade ago in San Diego.

This camaraderie could easily pave the way for open dialogue about a future in Minnesota. “I’ve known Kevin forever,” Rodgers said.

“We keep in touch during the season, so we’ve had good communication.”

However, O’Connell and the Vikings ultimately decided to focus on the future with McCarthy, taking them out of the running for the Pro Bowl veteran. Despite the mutual interest, Rodgers hasn’t been in a rush to choose a new team. He’s reflected on his priorities, with personal commitments drawing his focus away from football.

“I have a lot of things that are taking my attention away from football,” Rodgers shared. “That’s where I’ve been focusing most of my attention on.

Making a commitment to a team is a big thing.” At 41, with eyes on what could be his final season in 2025, Rodgers is understandably weighing his options carefully.

There’s a certain poetry in Rodgers potentially following the path of fellow Packers legend Brett Favre, who also made the jump to the Vikings. “I know there’s, I’m sure, a lot of sentiment from Packers fans and maybe even Vikings fans about certain things,” Rodgers acknowledged, hinting at the complex emotions such a move might stir.

The Steelers remain a potential suitor in this offseason saga, but with Rodgers, every option is still open. “I’m open to anything and attached to nothing,” he remarked, even considering the possibility of retirement. As the offseason unfolds, Rodgers is facing his football mortality, and he plans to take all the time he needs to map out the next—perhaps final—chapter of his illustrious career.
