Ryan Clark: The Chiefs should manage Patrick Mahomes’ ankle injury like the Warriors did with Steph Curry.

Kansas City Chiefs have to treat Patrick Mahomes’ injury with caution with just four weeks left until playoffs start.

The Kansas City Chiefs winning 13th game of the season against the Cleveland Browns was them taking one step closer to their three-peat hopes. But in that win, quarterback Patrick Mahomes gave the franchise a major scare with a high ankle sprain.

That high ankle sprain came about when he landed on his fee, along with the weight of Browns’ defensive tackle Mike Hall Jr. on his back. As he limped off, Chiefs fans at home might have felt like their heart stopped as their most important player looked hurt.

The three-time Super Bowl MVP was putting pressure on his other leg. With just four weeks left for the playoffs to start, aggravating that injury is not worth it. ESPN analyst Ryan Clark was asked on NFL Live how would he advice the Chiefs to handle this situation.

By referring to NBA superstar Stephen Curry‘s ankles, Ryan Clark was harking back to the days when the Golden State Warriors were throttled with Curry’s frequent ankle injury issues. As this is not the first time Patrick Mahomes has dealt with ankle injuries, he believes the Chiefs should do what they did with Curry.

That is to shut their quarterback down for the remainder of the regular season. Without a healthy Mahomes spearheading their play, they have no chance of winning games en route to a first ever three-peat.

The Kansas City Chiefs have a tough decision to make before they welcome the Houston Texans this Saturday. Mahomes might be recovering, but they have a tough schedule coming up.

As the NFL Insider mentioned, the Chiefs have two games in the space of five days. The latter being significant to both the league as well as streaming giant Netflix. Therefore, it could be good for them if Mahomes sat out this week. That would give him the time to recover and suit up for Christmas.

But if anything, the Chiefs should avoid playing him in their last regular season game against the Denver Broncos. Then they will probably get him two weeks of rest before taking on their next opponents in the Divisional rounds.
