Former Phillies second baseman Jean Segura has announced his retirement from Major League Baseball.

The 35-year-old Segura played with the Phillies from 2019-22 and was a key member of the team’s 2022 National League Championship team.

A Look Back at the Trade That Brought Segura to Philly

He came to the Phillies in a December 3, 2018, trade with the Seattle Mariners that included Juan Nicasio and James Pazos in exchange for J.P. Crawford and Carlos Santana.

A Look Back at Segura’s Phillies Tenure (2019–2022)

Segura spent four seasons with the Phillies, hitting .281 with 43 home runs and 176 RBI in 427 games.

A Defining Moment in the 2022 Postseason

The Phillies would go on to win the series 2-0 and advance all the way to the World Series, where they were defeated four games to two by the Houston Astros. It was the only season Segura made the postseason in his big league career.

Segura made a great defensive play in the Phillies’ NLCS Game 3 win against the San Diego Padres.

Overall, in 12 Major League Baseball seasons, Segura made two All-Star games (2013 and 2018), hitting .281 batting average with 110 home runs, 513 RBIs, and 211 stolen bases across 1,413 games from 2012-2023 with the Brewers, Mariners, Diamondbacks, Phillies, Marlins, and Angels.
