Should Cowboys reunite with former star receiver in free agency?.D

The Dallas Cowboys Should Consider Bringing Back Amari Cooper

Can the Cowboys Make a Splash in Free Agency?

At first glance, the Dallas Cowboys might not have many options when it comes to making a big move in free agency. However, with some strategic salary cap adjustments, Jerry and Stephen Jones could free up as much as $100 million in cap space. If they manage to do that, they could bring in elite talent to bolster both the defense and Dak Prescott’s offensive weapons.

A Familiar Face Could Be the Answer

One intriguing option for the Cowboys would be to reunite with a former star—wide receiver Amari Cooper. Cooper, who split the 2024 season between the Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills, is set to hit free agency in 2025. At 30 years old, he still has plenty of productive years ahead and could provide an immediate boost to Dallas’ passing attack.

Why Cooper Makes Sense for Dallas

The Cowboys desperately need a reliable second receiving option behind CeeDee Lamb. Last season, the offense lacked a consistent secondary threat, which limited Prescott’s ability to spread the field. Cooper is an ideal solution because he already has a well-established chemistry with Prescott.

During his four-year tenure with the Cowboys from 2018 to 2021, Cooper was one of Prescott’s go-to targets. He recorded 292 receptions on 429 targets (68 percent catch rate), accumulating 3,893 yards and 27 touchdowns in just 56 games. His impact helped Dallas’ offense rank among the league’s best, and he earned Pro Bowl selections in the process. Even after his departure, Cooper remained productive in Cleveland, tallying 174 catches for 2,660 yards and 16 touchdowns over three seasons.

The Financial Aspect of a Reunion

While the Cowboys have been hesitant to spend big in recent years, Cooper’s market value suggests he could be a cost-effective signing. According to Spotrac, Cooper’s projected contract value in free agency is around $14.2 million per year, with an expected deal of two years for approximately $28.5 million.

This price tag makes him an affordable option for Dallas, especially considering his proven track record within their system. Unlike bringing in an unfamiliar receiver who may need time to adjust, Cooper could seamlessly step back into the offense and produce immediately.

A Move Too Good to Pass Up?

With the Cowboys facing major decisions this offseason, bringing back Amari Cooper could be a smart move that strengthens their offense without breaking the bank. His previous success in Dallas, along with his connection to Prescott, makes him an ideal fit. If the Cowboys truly want to maximize their potential in 2025, reuniting with Cooper might be one of the best moves they can make.
