The Los Angeles Dodgers kick off their 2025 Spring Training schedule with a home matchup against the Chicago Cubs at Camelback Ranch.

First pitch of the Cactus League opener is set for 1:05 p.m. as the two teams gear up for an early start to the season. The Dodgers and Cubs reported to camp before the rest of Major League Baseball because of the Tokyo Series taking place in Japan next month.

Making the first start of Spring Training is Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who is also due to face the Cubs on Opening Day.

For the Cubs, Cody Poteet gets the ball in his Cubs debut. The right-hander has previously spent his time with the Miami Marlins and New York Yankees.

The Dodgers bring a star-studded lineup to the table this Spring, but a handful of key names are slow playing their availability in game action. Of those is Freddie Freeman, who won’t appear in Spring Training games until the end of the month, but that timeline may vary in how his body is feeling.

His target date is Feb. 27 or Feb. 28, when the Dodgers face the Colorado Rockies and Los Angeles Angels, respectively.

Shohei Ohtani also is not in the Dodgers lineup and won’t play until next week at the earliest.

A few non-roster invitees should have eyes on them, including Ryan Ward, David Bote, a six-year big league veteran, Giovanny Gallegos, an eight-year big leaguer, and top Dodgers hitting prospect, Dalton Rushing.

The Dodgers have a crunch with their Major League roster, with an established bench that features players without options. However, if an injury occurs, Bote could see some time.

Rushing is a name to keep an eye on, and with Will Smith having some injury questions, he could see time behind the plate.

Both players are in the lineup today, along with Hyeseong Kim and Eddie Rosario, who both make their debut in Dodger blue.
