The Philadelphia Eagles’ plan to retain offensive coordinator Kellen Moore has reached an impasse following his decision to accept the head coaching position with the New Orleans Saints. Moore, who played a pivotal role in the Eagles’ recent Super Bowl victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, is set to finalize his move to New Orleans in the coming days.
During the Super Bowl, the Eagles’ offense, under Moore’s guidance, amassed 345 total yards, with standout performances from quarterback Jalen Hurts and running back Saquon Barkley. Barkley notably broke Terrell Davis’s longstanding postseason rushing record.
Head coach Nick Sirianni made a public appeal during the Lombardi Trophy ceremony, urging Moore to stay by saying, “Let’s run this s— back, Kellen.” Despite these efforts, Moore has chosen to pursue the head coaching opportunity with the Saints.
Moore’s departure leaves the Eagles in search of their fourth offensive coordinator in as many seasons. Potential candidates to fill the vacancy include quarterbacks coach Brian Johnson and former NFL head coach Frank Reich.
As Moore transitions to his new role, the Saints are optimistic that his offensive expertise will revitalize the team following a challenging 5-12 season. Moore’s previous experience includes offensive coordinator positions with the Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Chargers before his tenure with the Eagles.
