“The worst I’ve been beaten in a long time.” Those were Patrick Mahomes’ raw, unfiltered words after walking off the field, his head heavy with the weight of defeat.-kid

Patrick Mahomes & Tom Brady Sit Down to Discuss Their Super Bowl LV Matchup

The Kansas City Chiefs are on track to make history this season. They are aiming to be the first franchise to win three straight Super Bowls.

Another Super Bowl ring would make it the fourth under the Patrick Mahomes- Andy Reid era, which they could have achieved last season if not for Tom Brady’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

After a heartbreaking loss in Super Bowl LV against the Buccaneers, Mahomes appeared before the media in Feb. 2021. When asked about the 31-9 defeat, Mahomes said:

“I mean obviously I didn’t play the way I wanted to play but I mean what else can you say. All you can do is leave everything you have on the field and I feel like the guys did that. They were the better team today, they beat us pretty pretty good. The worst I think I’ve been beaten in a long time.”

Patrick Mahomes acknowledged Tom Brady and the Buccaneers on Super Bowl LV win

The Chiefs QB wasn’t exaggerating about the loss; it was statistically his worst performance, too. Mahomes completed 26 of his 49 passes for 270 yards with zero TDs, two interceptions and a passer rating of 52.3.

It was the fifth game of his career with zero TDs, and the passer rating was the lowest of his career. It was also the lowest-scoring game the Chiefs had with Mahomes as a starter. Ironically, the Buccaneers (9-7) made their way into the playoffs via a wild-card entry, while the Chiefs dominated the season with a 14-2 record.

Mahomes simply acknowledged that Tom Brady and the Buccaneers were the better team that night.

“They had a good game plan,” Mahomes said. “They kind of took away all the deep stuff, they took away the sidelines, and they did a good job of rallying to the football and making tackles. We weren’t executing early. I had a few miscues. Guys, we weren’t on the same page but I mean credit to them man. They played a heck of a game defensively and offensively and beat us.”

Patrick Mahomes refused to cite toe injury as an excuse for the loss

Mahomes declined to use his toe injury as an excuse for his poor performance.

“It’s battlefield,” Mahomes said. “You’re playing football; you have to battle through injuries and so we’ll look at it tomorrow and we’ll make a final decision on if we’re going to have surgery on it or not.”

Mahomes had the last laugh when the two teams faced each other again in 2022. The Chiefs defeated the Buccaneers 41-31, seeking their Super Bowl revenge.
