To Pay Brock Purdy $50 Million, 49ers Are Ready to Sacrifice Their Biggest Stars…TS.DHUNG.

Shockwaves in San Francisco: 49ers Trade Deebo Samuel for a Bargain Price – Is This the End of an Era?

The San Francisco 49ers – one of the NFL’s most storied franchises – are sending shockwaves across the league with their bold “youth movement” this offseason. And the first bombshell has already dropped: Deebo Samuel is out — for nothing more than a fifth-round pick.

Deebo Samuel: From Star Player to Clearance Sale?

Despite still being under 30, Samuel’s production has dipped noticeably. That decline may explain why the 49ers were far more receptive to his trade request this time around, unlike their firm refusal back in 2021. Once a cornerstone of the offense, Samuel suddenly became a cut-price asset.

NFL insider Ian Rapoport broke down the shift in team philosophy:
“The 49ers are now willing to part ways with declining veterans, even if it comes at a short-term cost.”

Deebo Isn’t Alone – More Veterans Could Be Next

Samuel is just the beginning. Defensive tackle Javon Hargrave is reportedly on his way out too. And in another shocking twist, the 49ers are also open to trading Brandon Aiyuk, despite his lucrative contract extension.

“This isn’t just about Deebo or Aiyuk. It’s part of a broader plan to go younger. That’s why they’re at least listening to offers for Aiyuk,” Rapoport explained.

The $50 Million Brock Purdy Problem

At the heart of this youth movement is Brock Purdy. Once the NFL’s ultimate bargain, Purdy is now heading into a contract extension worth at least $50 million per year.

“The 49ers are leaving the era where they had the greatest bargain in NFL history — a starting quarterback on a dirt-cheap deal. Now they have to pay Purdy real money, and that forces them to cut costs elsewhere,” Rapoport said on NFL Network.

The $31.55 Million Dead Cap Nightmare

Trading Samuel isn’t just a clean break — it comes with serious financial consequences. The 49ers will eat a massive $31.55 million dead cap hit due to accelerated future earnings being applied to this season. It’s a steep price to pay for moving on.

Even George Kittle Isn’t Safe

It’s not just Samuel and Aiyuk on the chopping block — George Kittle could also have his contract restructured.
“A new deal for Kittle is under consideration. It’s going to be another expensive offseason for the 49ers, which makes cutting costs and getting younger all the more important,” Rapoport added.

Rebuild or Gamble with Success?

As the 49ers race headlong into a roster overhaul, they risk sacrificing the continuity that has made them a powerhouse in recent years. Swapping experience for youth might sound smart on paper, but can a “young and cheap” team really contend for a championship?

What’s unfolding at Levi’s Stadium is more than just a team retooling — it’s a seismic shift that could reshape the entire NFC landscape. Every move from here on out could make or break the 49ers’ future.
