The Philadelphia Eagles will have their hands full containing Washington Commanders’ Jayden Daniels, according to Tom Brady – who likened the rookie quarterback’s fearless mindset to that of Tiger Woods.

Entering an NFC Conference Championship clash with the Philadelphia Eagles, Daniels leads the NFL in postseason passing yards (567), passing touchdowns (four), and QBR (86.8). Despite having to travel on the road to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and No. 1 seed Detroit Lions, the young signal-caller has rarely seemed fazed by playing in enemy territories.

Perhaps most impressive is Daniels’ ability to play mistake-free football – a trait rarely found among first-year signal-callers who often struggle to overcome the rookie jitters. Over his first two playoff appearances, the 24-year-old has yet to throw an interception and has taken just one sack.

While making an appearance on the ‘Let’s Go!’ podcast, Brady argued that Daniels’ poise and confidence in the face of adversity are the reasons behind his success. “How do we really evaluate confidence? How do we evaluate poise? Because some people have it,” the three-time MVP began.

“The moments aren’t too big for them. They look at the challenge and they think about, ‘Man, this is gonna be amazing when we go out and beat these guys.’ And other guys look at the challenge and go, ‘Oh man, I really don’t want to mess up.’ And I think that fear of failure… keeps them from the ultimate confidence that they have in themselves, which allows them to grow to their maximum potential. So, even though Jayden Daniels is just a rookie, he has that poise and confidence.

Daniels’ unwavering courage reminded Brady of the attributes that Woods showed in the early stages of his decorated career. At just 21 years old, the legendary golfer became the youngest winner of the Masters in April of 1997 – additionally winning the tournament by the largest margin of victory ever recorded at Augusta National.

“Imagine… a young Tiger Woods,” Brady added. “He had never proven on the big stage that he was ready for those big moments in the Masters in ’97, but he had proved that to himself in all those junior amateurs that he won, that he didn’t care who he was playing. It was him versus him.”

Brady is far from the only person to shine a light on the traits that make Daniels a force to be reckoned with. Speaking to reporters last week, Commanders head coach Dan Quinn said: “Jayden has poise in these [winning time] moments where he doesn’t go wild after or lose his cool. He just has real poise in [those] spots and it’s the same whether it went well or didn’t and that’s really hard to do.

“Having poise in those moments, that’s a really big thing because the other players see it and feel it and they have it in those moments as well. We practice it a lot, but it looks like we practice these moments a lot and Jayden in those spaces, he is just very much, bang, onto the next one and going and that’s a really cool quality to have.”
