Tony Stewart Secures $15.5M Netflix Deal for Eldora Speedway Dirt Racing Film

In a blockbuster announcement bridging the worlds of motorsports and entertainment, NASCAR icon Tony Stewart has struck a $15.5 million deal with Netflix to produce a feature documentary about Eldora Speedway and the golden era of American dirt track racing. The film will chronicle the history of Stewart’s beloved half-mile oval – often nicknamed “the Big E” – and profile legendary drivers like Scott Bloomquist.

Stewart, a three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion and owner of Eldora Speedway since 2004, says the partnership will finally bring the track’s rich story to a global audience. In a statement, Stewart called the project “a passion project years in the making,” and said the film will include “never-before-seen footage and stories from the garage area” of Eldora.

“Eldora is more than just a racetrack – it’s the heart of dirt racing history,” Stewart said. “We’re excited to share its story on the world’s biggest platform. Fans will get to see the thrill of dirt racing and the legends who made Eldora what it is today.”

Netflix executives praised Stewart’s vision. Jane Miller, Netflix’s Vice President of Sports Documentaries, said: “We’re thrilled to partner with Tony Stewart to tell Eldora’s story. This film captures the heart and soul of grassroots racing. Netflix is committed to bringing authentic sports stories to fans everywhere, and Tony’s leadership ensures this will be a spectacular tribute.”

The announcement comes amid Netflix’s broader expansion into sports storytelling, following successes with series like Formula 1: Drive to Survive and upcoming profiles on major sports figures. Stewart’s documentary is expected to continue this momentum by diving deep into the culture and characters of dirt track racing.

Eldora Speedway’s Storied Legacy

Located in Rossburg, Ohio, Eldora Speedway is widely regarded as one of America’s most legendary dirt tracks. Founded in 1954 by promoter Earl Baltes, the venue has hosted generations of racing’s most iconic events, including the Dirt Late Model Dream, Kings Royal, and the World 100. Stewart’s ownership since 2004 has elevated the track’s national profile, blending tradition with innovation.

The film will trace Eldora’s journey from its roots to its modern-day prominence. It will include rare footage from classic races and archival interviews with racing pioneers. A central figure in the documentary is the late Scott Bloomquist, widely regarded as the greatest dirt late model driver of all time, who earned 12 major victories at Eldora over the course of his career. Stewart confirmed that Bloomquist’s story will be a focal point of the film.

Drivers and Legends in Focus

The documentary will feature interviews with racing legends and former champions who made their names at Eldora. Among those expected to appear are Danny Lasoski, Kenny Schroeder, and Chad Kemenah. Kyle Larson, current NASCAR Cup Series champion and a former Eldora competitor, is also rumored to make an appearance.

“Tony’s stepping up for the sport,” said Lasoski. “I’ve raced at Eldora against legends and I’m excited fans will finally hear our stories. It’s about time dirt racing got this spotlight.”

Stewart, who will narrate and serve as executive producer, said the film will capture the “grit, glamour, and raw excitement” of dirt racing. “Everyone knows about my stock car career, but dirt racing is where I really fell in love with racing. Bringing that passion to Netflix is a dream come true.”

Production and Release Plans

Production is already underway, with Stewart co-producing through Stewart Motorsport Inc. alongside Netflix’s documentary team and veteran filmmaker Sarah Wilkes. The project includes on-location filming at Eldora and other historic dirt tracks throughout the Midwest, with support from racing broadcasters and archives.

Netflix has not yet confirmed an official release date, but the documentary is expected to debut globally in late 2026. The feature-length film will be available in multiple languages and subtitled for international audiences, signaling Netflix’s commitment to expanding the global reach of motorsports storytelling.

“This isn’t just a NASCAR or F1 audience – it’s everyone who loves speed, hard work and history,” Stewart said. “We’re putting dirt racing on the map.”

Jane Miller echoed that excitement: “Eldora’s story is a window into American racing culture. With Tony steering this ship, we know we’re capturing something truly special.”
