Top 6 small-school stars the Kansas City Chiefs can’t miss in the 2025 NFL Draft.

The NFL Draft is just around the corner and the Kansas City Chiefs are hard at work with numerous intriguing players they could target to help push this roster back to the Super Bowl.

Prospects from small schools are often overlooked in the draft process and today, I took a look at six such guys you need to know on draft day.

1. Cam Miller, QB, North Dakota State

Miller was one of the biggest snubs from the NFL draft combine this offseason after an incredible career at North Dakota State. In college, Miller played in a pro-style offense and was incredibly successful as he set the school records for passing yards and completions.

NDSU has been home to several great QBs recently with guys like Carson Wentz, Easton Stick, and Trey Lance all being former Bison. Miller followed some elite names and had an illustrious career with 9,720 passing yards throughout his five seasons in Fargo. Miller is now entering the NFL Draft after the best season of his college career with 3,251 passing yards and 45 total touchdowns.

Miller is a true game manager who has quality physical skills that will translate to the NFL level. Miller has a solid arm and has a great ability to read the defense, make reads, and find the open man. Many may have concerns about Millers level of competition, but when you watch the film from NDSU, you can see he is more than capable of being an NFL player.

Miller projects to be a late Day Three pick or a priority free agent who can come in and be a day-one backup QB in the NFL. The Chiefs currently have Gardner Minshew and Bailey Zappe on minimal contracts and could be looking to add a backup quarterback this offseason. Miller’s blend of strong arm, mobility, and football IQ make him one of the best potential options for the Chiefs in this year’s draft.

2. Chase Lundt, T, UConn

Lundt is an incredibly experienced right tackle prospect with a massive frame which sets him up for tons of success at the NFL level. He’s one of the biggest guys in the draft, standing at six-foot-eight inches and is one of the most athletically gifted tackles in the draft.

Lundt has started 49 games for UConn at right tackle over the last 4 years and had a very impressive 2024 season. He appeared to have added weight and strength this year and did not allow a single sack this season in pass protection.

Analysts have concerns about Lundt, including his thin frame, age, and injury history. Despite his tall frame, Lundt only weighs in at 300 pounds and was listed at 285 the year prior, which is far too thin for an NFL tackle. Lundt is a sixth-year player after a redshirt and a COVID year and will be 25 years old in June. Lund also suffered a brutal knee injury in 2021 and missed the combine due to an MCL injury this offseason.

But the reality is the film for Lundt shows a talented prospect with a ton of upside to be a great NFL offensive tackle. His blend of size and quickness is unique and his potential for power will make him an appealing prospect to several NFL teams. If he’s available on day three, he could be a good project for the Chiefs to work with in the future.
