Miami Dolphins star Tyreek Hill has welcomed in the new year with a post on X that many people think could have more than one meaning.
Hill simply posted ‘Happy new year especially to the chiefs’, which on the face of it is almost certainly a reference to the final set of NFL matches in the regular season.
The Chiefs could do the Dolphins a massive favor this weekend if they manage to beat the Denver Broncos. If that happens it means that the Dolphins have a chance of getting to the playoffs.
With the Chiefs already sure of their place in the playoffs, they are expected to rotate the team very heavily and it would not be the biggest shock if the Broncos get the better of them.
The less innocent reading of Hill‘s post on X is that he is actually hinting at recent rumors that he will be joining the Chiefs next season, a move that would cause serious issues for the Dolphins and make the Chiefs an even stronger proposition.
The Cincinnati Bengals have already done the Dolphins one favor and the star wide receiver, wasted no time rallying his team after the Bengals‘ win.
Hill rallies the troops
Taking to social media, he shared a clear message: “Let’s take care of business guys.” Earlier in the day, Hill had openly rooted for Cincinnati, posting the Bengals‘ signature “#WHODEY” chant in a show of support.
While Hill‘s motivational message to his teammates was intended to galvanize the squad, his public support for the Bengals sparked debate among fans. Some appreciated his transparency and team-first mentality, while others criticized the optics of rooting for another franchise so openly.
Regardless of the controversy, Hill‘s focus is on helping the Dolphins secure a spot in the postseason, an achievement that once seemed unattainable after their poor start.
