A former beloved player of the Boston Red Sox is kicking off the 2025 Major League Baseball season with the New York Yankees. Ex-Red Sox utility player Pablo Reyes secured a minor league contract with the Yankees and excelled during Spring Training.
Reyes participated in 19 Spring Training games for the Yankees, achieving a batting line of .311/.418/.467, hitting two home runs, driving in five RBIs, drawing nine walks, scoring eight runs, and hitting one double.
His impressive performance led the Yankees to announce, just a couple of hours before the Opening Day first pitch, that they were signing him to a major league contract and adding him to their active roster. “Before today’s game, the Yankees executed the following roster changes: Signed INF/OF Pablo Reyes (#19) to a Major League contract and promoted him to the active roster.
Placed RHP Jake Cousins on the 60-day injured list due to a right elbow flexor strain.” Reyes spent the 2023 and 2024 seasons with the Red Sox, quickly becoming a fan-favorite by playing various positions for the team.
It’s likely that the Red Sox will face him multiple times in 2025 if he manages to remain with New York. The arrival of Opening Day prompted a flurry of activity across the league on Thursday as teams finalized their rosters, placed players on the Injured List, and took the field for the inaugural games of the 2025 season.
