During last week’s press conference, Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid provided insight on some of the young players he’s watching during offseason workouts.
“I like what he (Brashard Smith) does. He’s got good speed and (he’s a) good route runner.” said Reid, “That part of his game – for running backs and linebackers, these are kind of tough camps, so we’ll just see how things go once we get to (training) camp, but with what we’ve asked him to do, he’s done a good job with it.”
In his last college season, Smith led SMU with 1,332 rushing yards on 235 carries and 14 rushing touchdowns, ranking fourth in the FBS with 1,977 all-purpose yards. He played in all 14 games with 10 starts.
“I have to tell you, you probably evaluate all that.” said Reid, “You have kind of an eagle eye on them and make sure they’re handling themselves the right way and still giving them the little room to grow in there on their own, but you definitely keep a close eye on them.”
Reid and the coaching staff will closely monitor mandatory minicamp this week, as the intensity will increase with fully invested veterans.
