UPDATE: Lions predicted to make blockbuster trade for $17 million superstar defender.THANHDUNG

The Detroit Lions are having an excellent 2024 season, as Dan Campbell’s squad is 14-2 and has won 13 of their last 14 games. The Lions will host the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday Night Football in Week 18. The winner of the contest between the NFC North rivals on Sunday Night will clinch the division title and the No.1 seed in the conference, which includes a first-round bye and home-field advantage throughout the postseason.

It’s remarkable that Detroit is still one of the best teams in football despite the injuries the team has endured. The Lions have multiple key starters out with a plethora of injuries, including superstar edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson. The 2022 No.2 overall pick suffered a fractured tibia and fibula during Detroit’s Week 6 win over the Dallas Cowboys. Though his season appeared to be over at the time, Hutchinson is targeting a return for the Super Bowl if the Lions make it that far.

“I’m on track for my goal of returning for the Super Bowl,” Hutchinson said on NFL Network’s Good Morning Football on Dec.17. “And so, I keep telling all the boys when I see them in the (Lions) facility, ‘you’ve just to get there. And I promise you I’m going to be back.”

With Hutchinson out, the Lions pass rush has still been productive, as the mid-season trade for Za’Darius Smith has been a major boost. Still, general manager Brad Holmes could look to add another piece to the edge rusher room this offseason.

If Holmes decides to take a big swing this offseason and upgrade the pass rush, the Wright Way Network’s Dylan Sports Talk predicts the Lions will pull off a blockbuster trade for Cowboys superstar edge rusher Micah Parsons.

The Cowboys Have a Decision to Make on Micah Parsons - D Magazine

The addition of Micah Parsons is putting two of the best pass rushers together that would immediately jolt the Lions defense to a top ten level. It would also give the necessary depth and ability to rest Hutchinson and Parsons more often and not rely on them being out there 100 percent of snaps.

The Detroit Lions have been the most aggressive franchise since the hiring of Dan Campbell to lead the reigns. They have been more aggressive in the draft, in free agency, in trades and on the field. They are all in every year now to win it all, and nothing says aggressive and all in more than trading for Micah Parsons.

Parsons is unlikely to be traded this offseason, and even if he is, it won’t be the Lions. Detroit still has to get an extension done with Hutchinson sometime in the future, and Parsons is also seeking a lucrative extension. There is zero chance Holmes will be able to pay two pass rushers top-of-the-market money.

Though this trade is financially impossible, trading for Parsons would give the Lions one of the best pass-rushing duos in NFL history. The Cowboys superstar has posted 13 or more sacks in each of his first three seasons and has 9.5 sacks in 2024. Paired with Hutchinson, who was a Pro Bowler in 2023 and was playing at a Defensive Player of the Year level before his injury this season, opposing quarterbacks would be terrified to even snap the ball.

Once again, this trade has a slim chance of ever happening, but it would be one of the most exciting moves in league history and would form an unstoppable pass-rushing tandem.
