UPDATE: Lions veteran predicted to leave Detroit for $1.5 million contract with division rival.THANHDUNG

The Detroit Lions offense has been one of the most prolific units in the NFL this season, as Ben Johnson’s group led the league in points per game during the regular season (33.2) and was also second in yards per game (409.5) behind the Baltimore Ravens.

One of Detroit’s biggest strengths on offense is their rushing attack. When both are healthy, Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery form one of the league’s most dynamic running back duos, but the Lions also have some fantastic depth at the position in Craig Reynolds. The 28-year-old has stepped up as the team’s RB2 since Montgomery’s absence and has been incredibly efficient with his touches, averaging 4.6 yards per carry in the final three games of the regular season.

Reynolds will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason, and Bears Report’s Andrew Freeman predicts the Lions running back will depart Detroit and sign a one-year deal worth $1.5 million with the Chicago Bears in 2025 free agency.

Along with acquiring Reynolds, Freeman also predicts that Chicago will hire Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson as head coach and snatch more of Detroit’s veteran depth in free agency.

“Elsewhere on the offense, I have the Bears making minor additions to upgrade the playmakers on this roster,” Freeman wrote. “Craig Reynolds, Netane Muti and Shane Zylstra are also brought over from the Lions as veterans who know Johnson’s offense.”

Though Reynolds has flourished in limited action as a running back throughout his career, the former undrafted free agent is most valuable in the special teams department. Reynolds played 270 special teams snaps for Detroit during the regular season and posted a 65.6 PFF special teams grade.

The former Kutztown standout would provide some adequate depth behind D’Andre Swift in Chicago’s running back and be a contributor on special teams. The Bears desperately need some veterans who know how to win and are willing to do the dirty work on a week-to-week basis, and Craig Reynolds would be a perfect fit for the role.
