The Green Bay Packers have yet to execute any transactions involving their prominent cornerback, Jaire Alexander. Although he remains part of the team, it is apparent that the Packers are still planning to part ways with him.
Brian Gutekunst might be retaining Alexander as the 2025 NFL Draft looms, in hopes of trading him. If a trade doesn’t materialize, it seems probable that Green Bay will ultimately release the star defender. Alexander continues to perform at an elite level; however, the organization is frustrated as he has only managed to participate in seven games each of the past two seasons.
In 2024, Alexander demonstrated his high-caliber play, amassing 16 tackles, one fumble recovery, two interceptions, a defensive touchdown, and seven pass deflections over seven games. It’s likely that a team would show interest in trading a later-round pick for him eventually. Meanwhile, the Packers are exploring potential replacements.
Nate Hobbs has already been acquired in free agency with a four-year, $48 million deal and is anticipated to become a vital part of Green Bay’s secondary in 2025. Furthermore, the Packers are eyeing a clear substitute for Alexander. According to Bill Huber from Green Bay Packers on SI, the team plans to meet with East Carolina’s standout cornerback, Shavon Revel, ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft.
“East Carolina’s Shavon Revel, one of the top cornerback prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft, is scheduled for a predraft visit with the Green Bay Packers next week, as per a source,” wrote Huber. “Revel is likely a first-round selection; the Packers will almost certainly need to pick him at No. 23 instead of waiting until their No. 54 spot in the second round.”
Revel had a challenging 2024 season at East Carolina, appearing in just three games due to a torn ACL sustained in practice, yet he recorded eight tackles, two interceptions, a defensive touchdown, and two pass breakups in those appearances.
At 6-foot-3 and nearly 200 pounds, Revel is a robust and physical corner with impressive stature and playmaking abilities. If Green Bay intends to fill Alexander’s shoes through the draft, selecting Revel at No. 23 overall would be an excellent strategy.
