UPDATE: Pittsburgh Steelers offense could lose key starter for Ravens game.THANHDUNG

The Pittsburgh Steelers could be without rookie right guard Mason McCormick against the Baltimore Ravens. McCormick suffered a broken left hand, and his injury is a troublesome one. He said earlier this week that the team would let him test it out, but it is unclear how those tests have gone. If he can not play, it would be Spencer Anderson playing.

McCormick is listed as questionable, but the Steelers cut wide receiver Scotty Miller to make room for offensive tackle Calvin Anderson. That could signal that McCormick’s tests did not go well, and he may have to sit out this week.

If he does play, McCormick will play with a heavily taped brace rather than a cast, which would essentially render his hand useless. He has to grip and control anyone he would line up against, so a cast is out of the question.

McCormick said he heard a pop when the injury occurred on the field, so he knew what had happened immediately. He hopes that does not keep him off the field, though. If he has the ability to play, he will. For the Steelers, McCormick’s continued grip strength will be the determining factor if he can play.
